The film presents a near-future scenario in which global warming continues to produce environmental and ecological changes in the Arctic. Projecting current technologies, policies and environmental circumstances into the realm of the plausible, the story progresses through retrospectives of two human agents and the observations of a sentient and autonomous self-governing Arctic, speculating on what decisions it will make in it’s own interest, and what future role and relationship humans will have to the region, if any.

Pareid was founded by the architects Deborah Lopez and Hadin Charbel, an interdisciplinary design and research studio currently located between Ponferrada (Spain) and London. Their works address topics related to climate, ecology, human perception, machine sentience, and their capacity for altering current modes of existence through iminent fictions (if). They are both Lecturers at The Bartlett School of Architecture where they focus on climate fiction as a vehicle to put forward speculations that engage various ecologies via sentient machines and automated landscapes.
